Is it Reflux?

If you read the article in the previous post, you may have some idea of what is wrong with your crying baby and you might be suspecting infant reflux. You may have already rushed him to the doctor, or you may be considering the options available to you at home before your baby is put on medication. Since the severity of infant reflux is a continuum ranging from "a pain to the caretakers" to pain for the baby, it is important that you evaluate your baby's situation in regards to any advice you get here or anywhere else.

Most babies fare well when parents take natural preventative measures and precautions that help the baby feel better. You know this happens when the crying is dramatically decreased. There are a few products that make life MUCH easier for the reflux baby (and YOU!) These products are not just for babies diagnosed with reflux. These are for babies who spit up a lot (whether or not caused by reflux), fussy babies, babies with gas, and babies that do not like lying flat on their backs. In my opinion, they should be used for the comfort of all babies. But that's just me!

Shortly, I will discuss each product in full. But, I want to re-iterate: whether or not you have gotten a diagnosis of infant reflux, if handling your baby differently works for your baby, the diagnosis is meaningless. You may go on not knowing what is causing your baby's fussiness, but if you have fixed it without knowing the cause, the cause is irrelevant! The only thing a diagnosis will give you is the ability to get medication from the doctor. And if you can't help your baby without medication, then you need to make your way to the pediatrician.
